• Personally I think this is a scare tactic from Discover to avoid people buying gift cards (and it's working).  At least, I hope it is.  Only time will tell.

• I generally agree, but not on all points, though maybe he might agree with this.  I hoard miles, miles I will use eventually but I have no immediate plans to use.  I don't travel much but I have a family and I know that when I travel I will need a ton of miles so it can take a while to earn enough.  I guess you can call me a slow earner and quick burner.

• I would think about using AA miles for hotels if it was refundable.
