The Item - Dell Stuff
About a month ago, I posted a deal from Dell using the current AmEx Offers for You of $100 off a $600 purchase.
I ordered 2 TVs and a Dell Venue Pro Tablet for $635 and paid $535 after the AmEx offer.
The TVs came with 2 $125 ePromo Gift Cards and the whole purchase also came with a $30 Dell Advantage Promo eGift Card (5% in Loyalty Points)
I used each $125 ePromo Gift Card to buy 2 more tablets at a price of $86.87 each (normally $99 each at the sale price).
I used the $30 ePromo Gift Card to buy 1 more tablet at a price of $80.93.
I bought the first purchase on an American Express card for the offer and the other three purchases were made on my Discover Card.
That's a total of ~$790
Credit Card Points
$5.35 from American Express cards and about $5 from Discover ($2.50 now and $2.50 in 12 months).
Shopping Portal
Discover Deals is paying 10% for Dell purchases. That is ~$110 now and ~$110 in 12 months.
Loyalty Points
I earned $30 in Loyalty points, but as I already mentioned, I used those for another Tablet so I won't count that here
Fulfillment by Amazon Fees
The TV's were sold for $227 each and incurred Amazon's FBA fee of about $85 including shipping. $369 net
The first 3 tablets were sold for $127.50 and incurred a fee of $13.50 each including shipping.
$342 net
The last 2 tablets were sold for $125.50 and incurred a fee of about $14 including shipping (less efficient shipping).
$223 net
The Haul
I paid $790. I sold everything for $934 after fees. That's a profit margin of 18.2% just on the sale!
Here is how the numbers worked out:
Cash = $144
Credit Card Points = $10
Portal Points = $220 ($110 now, $110 later)
Loyalty points = $0 since it was used to make the last purchase
If you include the value of the credit card points, portal and loyalty points, the gain is ~$370. That's a fat margin of 46.8%! Absolutely gorgeous. Some of it I won't see for 12 months and I hope it won't get clawed back.
Please note that I did this before I read Big Habitat's post warning not to buy more than 3 of one item in one month. I wouldn't do it again since you could lose your portal points, which are worth a ton here.
